Quotations

1962
A new territory in the Canadian north.... If Ottawa approves, it could come into existence in 1964.... Probable name Mackenzie Territory.
1963
Already decided upon is the formation, government and boundaries-to-be of the new western territory, to be called the Mackenzie Territory. Embracing a 580,000-square-mile area extending east from the Yukon to a line bisecting Saskatchewan's northern boundary and north to the Arctic Ocean islands of Victoria and Banks, it will be governed by a nine-man council, five of them elected and four appointed. The seat of the council will be located within the territory, probably at Fort Smith.
